A 56 km coast stage pinned to the sea slope of Ganos Dağı: narrow, sharply bent and shadeless, running past fishing villages and vineyards with the Marmara off your left shoulder.

Tenth on Hürriyet's list of the best motorcycling routes in Türkiye, this day ride clings to the steep sea slope of Ganos, whose summit Hünkâr Tepesi reaches 945 m. Uçmakdere, with launch ramps at 250 and 600 m, is among the country's busiest paragliding sites: about 20,000 people flew in the first half of 2026. Gaziköy stands on ancient Ganos; in the 12th century these slopes held vast monastic communities, a metropolitanate from 1329. In Şarköy 22 of 27 villages grow vines; Mürefte's name comes from Miryofiton, a thousand vineyards.

What to eat

Tekirdağ köftesi
Small grilled beef meatballs, the mince kneaded with stale bread, onion, garlic, cumin and pepper, then rested a day before it meets the coals.
At the köfte houses of central Tekirdağ (Süleymanpaşa), at the head of the corridor; a portion is ten pieces, with chilli sauce, roasted peppers and tomatoes and sliced onion, then peynir helvası to finish.
Tekirdağ peynir helvası
A dessert of unsalted fresh cheese curd melted with oil, egg yolk and durum flour, then sweetened: bright yellow, with a stringy, fibrous grain.
In central Tekirdağ, eaten after the köfte as dessert; bright yellow and fibrous, served with ice cream in summer if you like, and keeping 30 days when fresh.
Şarköy zeytinyağı
Extra virgin olive oil from the groves on the Ganos slopes, mostly the Gemlik variety: green, peppery, with a bitter finish.
At the producers' shops of Şarköy, Mürefte and Hoşköy, and at the village breakfasts in Uçmakdere; pressed mostly from Gemlik olives on the Ganos slopes and carrying a geographical indication since April 2026.
Mürefte şarabı (bağbozumu şarapları, roze)
Wine from a coast that shipped grapes to France and Italy for centuries; today reds, whites and above all rosés from local and French varieties.
Mürefte and Hoşköy, the vineyard towns of the corridor; the Kutman and Aker wine museums, the Sevilen, Melen and Kayra houses, with picking and tasting at the late-September harvest.

What to buy

Şarköy Zeytinyağı (coğrafi işaretli, erken hasat soğuk sıkım)
Early-harvest, cold-pressed oil: deep green, high in polyphenols, with green apple and almond notes and a bitter, peppery finish that catches the throat.
The sales counters of the Kutman and Aker wine museums in Mürefte, and the boutique producers and village cooperatives of Şarköy and Hoşköy; intensely green, bitter, with a peppery finish. Without the logo, no product may be sold under this name.

Bottles and demijohns from an old Greek vineyard town: the local yapıncak and karalahna alongside semillon, gamay and şenso.
Close to 30 producers in Mürefte Mahallesi; Feyzi Kutman's 2004 museum, the first wine museum in Türkiye, Aker's third-generation vineyard house, and Melen's old Greek-built shop in Hoşköy. Harvest runs September to mid-October.

A growers' cooperative bottling under its village name: Yapıncak, Gamay and Şenso wines, plus unsweetened grape juice and brined vine leaves.

Tekirdağ Yapıncak Salamura Asma Yaprağı (menşe adı, tescil 584)
Brined vine leaves from the Yapıncak grape: thin, wedge-shaped and pale green, tender enough to break in the mouth, the region's sarma leaf.
The Mursallı cooperative's shop on the Şarköy approach and the vineyard houses of the Şarköy-Mürefte villages; the leaves are picked in May and June from the sixth and seventh node, and the local sarma is rolled in them.
Tekirdağ Bulama — çövenli üzüm helvası (mahreç işareti, tescil 1678)
A set halva of grape must cooked with soapwort root over a wood fire for hours, pale yellow to light brown, and usually needing no sugar.
At the Tekirdağ street markets, at the gateway to the corridor; a producer from İshakça village in Malkara brings her cauldron to market three days a week and is nearly the only person selling it. A harvest product, it keeps 12 months in a closed jar.

Road notes

Fill the tank on the way out of Tekirdağ: the station where the road splits into Kumbağ and Naip is the last safe fill on this line. There are very few pumps between Kumbağ, Uçmakdere and Hoşköy.
Set off early. The road has no shade and at midday there is nowhere on the high section to pause. Riding it without stops takes 72 minutes; sit down to a village breakfast in Uçmakdere and half the day goes here.
The 7 km of slope between Uçmakdere and Gaziköy is a landslide bed: the road closed completely on 30 January 2026, opened again on 4 March, and shut for another twenty days from 13 April for asphalt. Gaziköy-Hoşköy, 4 km, has been under roadworks since 28 July 2026 — expect a worksite and fresh asphalt. If the section is shut, reach Şarköy on the inland Tekirdağ-Malkara road; the two split on the way out of Tekirdağ.
Reckon with the altitude: the shore is at zero, the big paragliding ramp at 600 m, the summit of Ganos at 945 m. The high section is open to the wind, the road is narrow and the edge falls away in places; cut your speed on a windy day.
Put the market day in your plan: Şarköy's biggest street market is on Friday, the second on Tuesday, in İstiklal Mahallesi on Karadeğirmen Caddesi.
June, July and August are high season; do not arrive in Şarköy over a public holiday without a booking. the population of Kumbağ rises to between 50,000 and 150,000 on long holidays and the coast road crawls.
You walk up to the Hora Feneri from the Şarköy-side entrance of Hoşköy; time it for sunset. The 20 m tower, built in 1861, stands on a headland 50 m above the sea.
To cool off, the blue-flag public beaches are at Kumbağ, Hoşköy, Mürefte and Şarköy. Eriklice is not on the list; it is known instead for its olives and grapes, and sits 6-7 km short of Şarköy.

Kumbağ Halk Plajı
A summer beach town 14.5 km along the coast from Tekirdağ, with a blue-flag public beach; the climb into the Ganos starts here.

A coastal village on the site of ancient Ganos, with Byzantine remains and the Ayazma restaurant, known for its fish; where the landslide slope meets the sea.
Hora Feneri (Hoşköy Feneri)
A 20 m lighthouse built for Sultan Abdülmecid in 1861 with French ironwork; its 96-crystal revolving lens is seen 40 km out to sea.

Warnings

The 7 km of slope between Uçmakdere and Gaziköy is a landslide bed; the road is narrow, the edge falls away in places and the high section is open to the wind. Winter rain brings a risk of rockfall, so check Tekirdağ Büyükşehir's notice before you set off; Gaziköy-Hoşköy, 4 km, has been under roadworks since 28 July 2026 — expect a worksite and fresh asphalt.
